Many of you have already met Andrew, who supplies all our superb lobsters and spider crab meat, but for this very special visit he will be joined by Alan, skipper of the #Ajax and renowned Hake Hunter and Mike, a brilliant blogger and ambassador for the fishing industry

They’ll be in the shop to meet and greet customers from 10:30am until around 4pm. You’ll be able to tell them how much you enjoy their catch, and ask any questions you have about what they do, life at sea and fish in general  it’s a fantastic opportunity to get to know the men who brave the elements to put the food on our tables

We’re ready for another busy weekend..

Fish was a little short at the start of the week, due to some pretty windy weather off the coast, but now it seems that anything that floats is out on the water catching fish

New to us this week is our fresh, handpicked Cornish Spider Crab Meat. Cornish Spiders are just coming into season, and Andrew, our lobster fisherman, has been hauling them in. He came up with the innovative idea of sending them off to a crab processing company to have them cooked and picked and we’ve got the results of his forward-thinking ‘first to market’ idea in the shop this weekend.

Andrew’s also been busy hauling lobster pots and has sent up lots of his Native Cornish Lobsters, so we’re pretty well stocked on Live, Freshly Cooked and Dressed if you fancy a real treat…

And, with the sun peeking out a bit, and temperatures a little higher than the first few days of May, we’ve stocked up on all our pre-prepared barbecue products.

Heading towards Easter and the #Fishiest Friday of the year…

Good Friday is traditionally one of the busiest days of the year for fishmongers, and this year we’re lucky that tides and weather seem to be on our side, so fish should be plentiful

Andrew’s also out on the water again hard at work, pulling his pots to bring us more of his exceptional Cornish Lobsters. We should also have some of his pollack, rays and hopefully one or two monk

Line caught bass are back, after being off the menu for a couple of months, and we’re seeing the first of the season’s wild black bream. Flat fish are all looking good, and we had our first few plaice back on our counter last week, they’ve fattened up nicely after their ‘lean months’.

If you fancy fish, but are just too busy to prepare anything after a hard day, we’ve got lots of freshly prepared ideas to make your meal really easy.

One of our most popular dishes is our fish pies – they always go down a treat. Don’t forget we can make these for you in your own dishes – they are bespoke, so you can decide exactly what you’d like in your pie – extra smoked haddock, a few prawns… it’s your choice.  Dishes for Good Friday need to be brought in by Thursday morning, so that we can get them all ready and prepared for Friday collection

We’ll be open all week as usual, with slightly shorter hours on Good Friday – 8am – 3pm, and as we’re likely to be super-busy, its always a good idea to place an order if you know you’d like something specific – 01276 66618. It’s going to be a spring time scorcher…

We’ve been reliably informed that there will be sunshine over Camberley on and off for the next few days, so we’ve been working our socks off this morning to get everything ready for those impromptu barbecues

Although Friday and Saturday aren’t looking particularly great, today and Sunday look like the perfect excuse to light the fires and indulge in a little alfresco dining

Spring has arrived, and so have the Natives…

Its still a little early to get too excited, but Andrew has just hauled a few of his well-placed, well-baited lobster pots and they were full of lovely, plump, lively Cornish Lobsters.

So, whether you’re looking for a special treat for your mum, or a little bit of something tasty to celebrate spring, we’ve got lots of fabulous shellfish heading our way

Andrew’s lobsters are on the road from Newlyn and will be with us first thing on Friday morning. We’ll have the lobster pot ready and waiting , so if you’re not comfortable cooking them yourself we’ll have freshly boiled and fully prepared available too

If lobster’s not your thing, we’ve also got load of our stunning extra-large Devon crabs on their way and again, these will also be heading for the pot nice and early. We did sell out last week, so its always a good idea to reserve yours if you know you’d like one

It’s British Pie Week… who knew!

This week the UK celebrates one of our all time favourite dishes – pies!

We did wonder why our fabulous homemade fish pies were selling better than ever, and now we know

As you probably already know, all our fish pies are made using the best of our Cornish catch, Wester Ross Scottish salmon, and our super-chunky, extra-smokey smoked haddock.  We make all our own rich cheesy sauce, and top them with buttery mash and extra mature cheddar – they’re absolutely delicious

To celebrate pie week, we’ve decided to donate 10% of sales from every fish pie sold this week to RNLI Penlee.

RNLI Penlee are based in Newlyn and ensure the safety of the Newlyn fleet, so we think its a great cause and very appropriate for us to support. Andrew, our infamous lobster fisherman is a crew member, and has actually sent us some beautiful fish this morning,  so we’ll be adding some his fish into our pies this week

Friday 27th January – meet Andrew!

Our favourite fisherman, Andrew Stevens, is heading up from Cornwall to Camberley on Friday 27th January for his first visit in 2017

Many of you are already huge fans of Andrew’s catch and throughout the summer indulge in his fabulous Cornish lobsters. At this time of year he’s catching all our pollack, some cod and mackerel and we’re absolutely delighted that he’ll be spending a few hours meeting our customers.

Its also an ideal opportunity for us to introduce our second charity. For many years we’ve supported The Fishemen’s Mission and have helped to raise funds and awareness for this worthwhile cause. We have decided to try to help do the same for the RNLI Penlee Lifeboats. Andrew, and many other Cornish fishermen are volunteers at this lifeboat station and we would like to try to help them raise funds. Andrew is bringing  a donation box for the shop and over the year will have some fundraising events.

We’ll still work with the Fishermen’s Mission, as this is very close to our hearts, but would like to help Penlee as it is crucial to the safety of so many fishermen who catch the fish we sell

What a fabulous start to 2017

We had a rather short week last week, only opening from Thursday to Saturday, but it was really wonderful to see so many of you starting your New Year with some fabulous seafood

Our favourite Hake-Hunters on the Ajax, out of Newlyn

The fish we were sent last week from our Cornish fishermen was some of the best we’ve ever seen. The quality was absolutely outstanding and this week’s looking just as good. We are so privileged to have access to some of the best fish in the world and we all feel very proud to be able to showcase the best of British seafood in our little shop in Surrey

We’ve got a huge haul due in tomorrow…

From Cornwall – Super-chunky cod and ray wings, thick monk, haddock, mackerel, squid, lemons, sardines, John Dory, black bream and hake.  Andrew’s also been out on the water and we’re getting a few of his highly sought after lobsters and pollack.

From the South Coast there will be beautiful day boat brill, dovers, turbot, wild bass and our extremely popular winkles and palourdes.

Our extra large crabs are on their way up the A303 from Devon as I write this and will be heading to the pot first thing, so should be ready for us to dress after lunch.

And then we’ll have all the usual suspects – Shetland Scallops, mussels, WesterRoss salmon… it’s going to be a seafood lover’s delight

I did get things a little wrong last week and totally underestimated how busy we were going to be, meaning we sold out of everything very early each day. If you know you’d like something in particular give us a call on 01276 66618 and we’ll pop it away for you so you don’t have to get up at silly o’clock to bag your first choice
