Cooked Whelks

These are seriously good whelks. Sourced from King’s Lynn, they’re small, tender and beautifully sweet, a world away from the enormous, chewy whelks that may have put you off in the past!

We searched for whelks that were just the right size and these are absolutely spot on. Even proper whelk connoisseurs rave about them, and they’ve developed quite a following in the shop. Enjoy them simply as they are, with a squeeze of lemon, or go traditional with a splash of vinegar and a little white pepper.

Our whelks have been frozen and are sold defrosted, ready to eat. Once home, keep them refrigerated and enjoy within two full days.

Did you know… whelks are one of Britain’s great old-fashioned seaside foods, traditionally sold alongside cockles, winkles and jellied eels. Find really good ones like these and it’s very easy to see why they’ve never disappeared.
