Easter 2025

HAPPY EASTER!

The online order book has now closed for collections over the Easter Weekend, but we will still have lots of fish and shellfish available for you to come and select from our counters. We open at 8am each morning and we'll have good availability at the start of each day, but with many people visiting we will run out of things as the morning progresses. On Friday and Saturday we will be closing at 1pm

You can send a text to 07354 849465 to find out about availability, but please bear in mind it is going to be really busy in the shop so I will respond as soon as I can but it may be 'after hours'.

If I don't see you over the weekend, I hope you have the most wonderful Easter, and remember, we will be closed on Tuesday 22nd due to Bank Holiday Monday.

You can't order this product online at the moment, but if you give us a call or send a text to 07354 849465 we'll be able to advise on availability

Newlyn has seen huge numbers of extra large octopus again this summer and our intrepid Lobster Fisherman, Andrew Stevens has started to pull them in with his lobster pots (they seem to enjoy his lobsters almost as much as we do)

As we go through the summer, the octopus tend to move on, but it's very likely that they'll return to Newlyn late spring

Each octopus weighs over 4kg, but you can buy a 'couple of legs' and we'll cut them to weight

Before 'finishing' off your octopus in whatever recipe you choose, you need to cook it to make it more tender. Fill a pan with salted water, bring to the boil and drop the octopus into the pan. Keep on a very low simmer for around 30 minutes to an hour depending on the size of the octopus - don't cook too quickly or the octopus will become rubbery. Check that it's tender by inserting a knife into the chunkiest part of the leg, if there's not much resistance its cooked.

Once tenderised you can follow your favourite recipe. Its utterly delicious marinated in a little oil, garlic, and lemon and then chargrilled on the barbecue

Usually allow 3-400g of whole octopus per person. REMEMBER, if you ask us to clean your octopus the 'finished' weight will be roughly half of the original purchase weight
