Hello and welcome to January! It's one of the toughest months to guage availability, so until fishing gets well underway and the supply challenges ease, I've removed the option to pre-order wild capture Newlyn fish from online ordering
I am buying lots of wonderful fish, and chances are, will have what you're looking for. But 'just in case' there's an issue with availability the best option to order your fish requirements is to send me an email at info@passionateaboutfish.co.uk and I will be able to advise you on the likelyhood of getting your preferred species.
Thank you! Sue
Although we are hugely proud to showcase fresh British seafood there is a need to source frozen seafood especially when it comes to certain shellfish. Prawns are hugely popular, but most aren’t indigenous to the UK. Our ‘prawn’ catch, and one of the most important species to the UK fishing industry is the mighty Langoustine. Caught around the coast of Scotland Langos are the highest value species within the UK fishing fleet.
When looking for prawns, either Kings or Tigers from the warmer waters around South America or Indonesia or the smaller but flavour- filled ‘cold waters’ from way up North around Iceland and Greenland, we have to venture further afield.
A tiny percentage of imported prawns are brought in fresh, but the majority are caught or harvested, then immediately frozen at the source. This is a good thing… to try to transport a volatile, fresh product across continents without freezing would definitely have a detrimental effect on quality.
We do display ‘defrosted’ kings and tigers on our counter, but if you like the idea of always having some to hand, you can also choose whole bags from our freezer display
As well as prawns you can find a small but delicious selection of fish and shellfish in our freezer cabinet. Whitebait, large octopus, mixed seafood selections, unbreaded scampi and coated squid.
