They all said it would never work… but on 4th December 2014, The Fish Shop opened its doors with one simple ambition - to bring the freshest fish from around the UK coast to our friends and neighbours in Camberley, Surrey.

After spending her whole working life in the seafood industry, Sue longed to leave the corporate world and go back to her roots. She dreamed of opening her own little fish shop where she could potter about, set up a pretty counter every morning, make a few fish pies, and spend her days chatting to customers who popped in for 'a bit of fish'.

Approaching 50, her daughters Jasmine and Amber finally told her to either get on with it or stop talking about it — so she did! Too nervous to tell her mum and dad what she was up to, Sue quietly started hunting for the perfect shop.

She knew she didn’t want to be in the town centre — after all, she’d lived through closing her parents’ much-loved shop back in 2000 and Frimley Road seemed ideal: a busy local thoroughfare, free parking, and just 25 seconds from home. When the unit we’re in now became available, she knew it was meant to be.

We quickly outgrew the original shop, and Sue began to think about moving somewhere bigger. So in 2020, when the shop next door came up for sale, it felt like the perfect solution. 'Next Door' was fitted out with a high-spec preparation kitchen for our legendary homemade products, and it also gave us space for a much-appreciated Customer Order Collection Point, saving our savvy customers from the (often rather long!) queues.

Since day one, we’ve been genuinely humbled by the response. We’ve made wonderful friends, shared happy and sad times with our customers, and felt part of a community that’s become family.

Over a decade on, we’re still growing, now with a team of up to seventeen during peak season. It’s been the most rewarding journey, and we have all our wonderful customers to thank.

They say you attract your tribe and we’ve definitely found ours.
