Shines Brisling Sardines (Sprats)

A cracking little range from Irish family business Shines Seafood in Killybegs and already a firm favourite with our customers.

Despite the name on the box, these little fish are actually sprats (Sprattus sprattus) rather than true sardines. Closely related, beautifully oily and full of flavour, sprats have been enjoyed around our coasts for generations and are every bit as deserving of a place in the store cupboard.

Shines catch their Irish sprats in the waters around the Irish coast during the autumn and early winter, when the fish are in peak condition. Naturally rich in Omega 3 and a good source of protein, they’re packed simply and available in a choice of olive oil, spring water, tomato sauce or lightly smoked in sunflower oil.

Small, tender and wonderfully tasty, they’re fabulous straight from the tin, piled onto good toast, tossed through a salad or served simply with a squeeze of lemon.
